Leopoldo the Frog: a musical story for Pre-K to Grade 3
Hall Ensemble has developed an exciting project for students pre-K through grade 3 using the story and illustrations of Austin-based artist Ellen Murray.
Designed to help teachers focus on state requirements in music and theatre the program also offers opportunities for discussion of self-esteem, teamwork, science and the environment.
Taking place in the Florida Cypress Swamps, “Leopoldo the Frog” tells a musical story using characters and illustrations that are accurate to the flora and fauna of the swamp.
The four musicians in the Ensemble (playing the violin, viola, cello and bassoon) accompany beautiful illustrations with engaging excerpts from chamber works by composers such as Schubert, Danzi and Bizet. The finale scene includes a "concert in the swamp" where the children join in the music making with cricket and frog noisemakers while the Ensemble presents a rousing rendition of an operatic classic.
